Goodies:)... 01/19/2011

I had a really nice relaxing weekend with Phil...and the kids had a blast with my sis!...Thanks everyone for all the kind birthday wishes!:)...I don’t really look forward to birthdays like I used to;)...but I had such a fun time, I didn’t much care about the number on the cake, err...pie (keylime!...yummy).

We stayed at a beautiful, old hotel (during a light snowfall our first night), ate way too much fried and battered food...and basically just hung out together...saw a movie...stopped at a bookstore.  Phil read for hours, and I got to sleep in as late as I wanted!:D....We even had chocolate covered strawberries and champagne delivered to our room the first night—how romantic!!...I’ve always wanted to do room service in a swanky hotel just once—so crossed that off my list!...It was lovely...

Well, back to work now, although my work is hardly work at all...as I really do enjoy everything about what I’m doing right now!  I received two requests for zombie art this week, which I’m stoked about—because, you know, I love my monster girls!!...Both are pretty versions, of course...I’ll post them later in the week...Also working on a butterfly piece and a girl with a heart balloon that I just love.  They are on my desk now—so will show them once they are all colored up!:)

I am still waiting on my stamps to arrive for the January giveaway...but expect them in a couple days.  I have a few things to go along with them...Take a peek!:)

Hope you are all safe and warm...more snow on the way at the end of this week—I am so over it!...I’m already in spring mode (note that the giveaway embellishments are all very flowery/ spring themed:)...Hurry up dreary winter!!

I’ve been thinking about what sentiment to put on my Christmas postcards...And, since they will come as a set of 4, I thought these words sort of summed up Christmas time for me.  They will be depictions (or really my interpretationsJ) of my four favorite Christmas stories...I already posted the artwork for the matchstick girl.  Here is my artwork for The Gift of the Magi, my very favorite of allJ.  Isn’t she pretty!?...

Love will be the word for this postcard.  Hope for the matchstick girl.  Can you guess the other two stories?:) ... Hopefully, I will have these in my Etsy shop in a few days! J I am super busy with custom orders right now, which takes up most of my time...Artwork this week includes pocket mirrors for 16 bridesmaids (not all in the same wedding...can you imagine!)...a “Muddy Princess”...a fairy...a nine year old who loves Tae Kwon Do, ballet, her cat, and chickensJ...a nerdy math girl...and a few more I can’t remember right now!...Oh my!!  I’m ahead of the game right now...(Unfortunately, my house is WAAAAYYYY behind the game;)...Christmas Wish #1:  Santa, Please send elves to help with housework!

I’ve added a couple more stocking stuffers to my shop as well...Little shrink paper charms.  I love these, but I get so nervous making them...Once they start shriveling I start freaking outJ...As long as I get them out of the oven and under a book quick, they are actually pretty easy to make!...Phil even humored me and helped with a batch.  (Don’t tell anyone!!;)...

I am off to take the kids Christmas shopping for a Christmas project at Niamhy’s school...We need to fill two shoe boxes with small toys, a penpal note, and some special candies...Then all the boxes are sent across the world to needy children.  How exciting!!  Just think of a little girl opening up a tiny, new babydoll...or a little guy getting an action figure...When normally, they would never see new toys for the holidays...It makes me want to cry...AHHHH...Okay, not going to go with red eyes to shop, so for now...

Thanks for checking in (don’t forget to leave an idea for Xmas cards—November’s giveaway!!!...)

Hugs, Krista

I love sending out Christmas cards!  I try and do a fun theme each year.  Last year I did a ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas rhyme, with a few changes to make it “ours.”  The year before that, Philly and Niamh were Cindy Lou Who and the Grinch (see pics below for a giggleJ ).  Boxes of greeting cards are already crowding store shelves with lots of choices to send to family and friends.

Philly actually looks kinda scarey;)...but how do you turn a kid green after Halloweeen??...I did my best with Green coolwhip and a little photo editing...  :)

It is time for me to put some Christmas ideas in my ETSY shop, and I would like to do a greeting card set and a pack of post cards.  The postcards will feature four of  my favorite Christmas stories, two of which will be the Little Matchstick Girl and my all time favorite (can’t even read it to my kiddies cause it makes me cry!), The Gift of the Magi.  The other two you can check out in about a week when they are complete!

For November’s Giveaway, I thought it would be fun to do a design your own set of Christmas cards.  What sort of image would you love to see on your cards this year?...Keep in mind—it should have a character (because that’s what I doJ)... It can be a child OR an older, little bit more realistic girl/boy (like my Trixie girl).  Feel free to include animals, as I do enjoy drawing them as well.  And I’d LAAA-ooove to do something out of the ordinary, so don’t be shy about something off the wall! J  Traditional ideas are welcome as well;)

Post your comments/suggestions until Saturday, November 20th (It will take about a week to illustrate and design the cards, so they will be mailed out to you right after Thanksgiving).  Winner must be a FOLLWER as well.  Set includes 10 extra special Christmas cards and envelopes.

Enjoy your Friday...Looking forward to catching up on my DVR shows with Phil tonightJ...and getting some orders completed.  Might even have a glass of wineJ.

Xoxo, Krista

Today was a fun day at the computer!  I checked out the Sugar Nellie blog like I do each morning and was so excited to see some more of my Simply Sassy girls posted on there!!...YAY!...They are too adorable as stamps...and it’s so fun to see how someone else colors your artwork—what an inspiration! J It sort of brings new life to an image, and I get new ideas each time I see a colored in Sassy stamp.

Here is one of the pieces that was made into a stamp...I changed her choice of fishing shoes for the stamp-- and I have to say, I love her new shoes even better than her rainboots;)...Check her out here.

Wow—my weekend literally flew by in a blink!!...We had two trick-or-treating nights (one on actual Halloween and one is a tradition at my mom and dad’s)...A girl movie night at my sister’s...and some travel to see family as well...Needless to say, I never got around to posting the winner for my October giveaway...But I did have Niamh pull a name from all the girls who entered by Friday...(Notice my NY Giants hat;)...GO GMEN!!...Sorry, I couldn’t resist;)...

Holiday Red... 10/29/2010

One of my favorite parts of the holiday season is planning pretty things to wear to holiday parties and dinners.   Mostly, we have family get togethers, but there is the occasional dress-up event that is really exciting to plan an outfit for.  I really love a look that feels soft and lightweight, yet still looks wintery—something like a quiet snowfall...But, it’s hard to strike a balance between delicate and wintery...Especially if you’re a naturally cold person (like myself)!!...I’ve put together a pretty holiday outfit that should keep a girl warm, yet feeling girly and even a bit magicalJ.

Recently, I saw this red on red tights/shoes combo in Lucky magazine’s November issue.  Maybe a little scary at first;), but with the right outfit on top, can look quite festive and elegant!  The outfit keeps two of my favorite things wearable in the winter season as well—lace and white...And with the punch of red and a big emerald ring, you can look Christmas-y (not a word, I know;) while not straying into that whole red and green outfit horror showJ.  A lacey slip, body hugging sweater dress, and neutral colored coat are the perfect subtle topping to cherry colored legs...

And the outfit put together...

Here is a Simply Sassy stamp I made into a little card for my hubbyJ...HAHA...Actually, I thought it would make a cheeky, sort of joking with you (wink) card for a husband...I don't have all the fancy cardmaking skills I've seen on the Sugar Nellie blog (Everything posted on there is AAAAmazing!), but I liked coloring her in...She has the hair I dream aboutJ...

Picture
I am going to do a fun, sort of secret giveaway for this month...The only thing you’ll know for sure right now is that you’re getting to choose any one character from my shop in a size 5x7...The rest of the goodies are up in the air...(not really, I know what I’ll sendJ)...I’m going to send the winner a little tiny box of surprises...just a girly, fun thing to get in the mailJ...I will close the giveaway in one week, Friday Oct 29th.  Then I’ll post a pic of all the fun things the winner will receive!...

A pretty package filled with sweet, girly, beautiful goodies...What you need to do to enter is *LEAVE A COMMENT* and *BECOME A FOLLOWER OF MY BLOG.*  Those are the two things to do in order to enter the random drawingJ...

Thanks...and good luck to everyone!!

WOW!!...I have so many great characters ready to put on paper after all your comments!!...It was really hard to pick just one winner!......After reading one comment in particular, I just knew immediately that I HAD to have this illustration in my portfolio!!....

Congradulations CHERI HIGDON!!!!....

Her comment was...
I think images with curly hair are the very best to color because they add dimension-I mean lots of wild curly hair-and probably red. Of course to go with that you need green eyes with little flecks of gold in them and freckles across the bridge of the nose. I'm thinking maybe a tomboy that is trying to push her wild hair up in a cap to play football with the boys. She's trying to be one of them with her baggy, loose, ratty clothes but her pure female essence just can't help but shine through as she is bent to either catch or toss a football. You could easily then add a boy to this scene that is trying to act cool and not notice she is actually a girl...like she's just one of the guys but he's not quite pulling it off. Don't know if I put this in words very well but I can see it in my mind very well...

I thought she put it into words perfectly!!  I am so excited to draw this fun scene out...and I even get to throw a little guy in there...I will be working on it this weekend and post a pic on Monday!:)...Cheri, I will contact you for shipping info:)

Thanks eveyone for participating!!...I have some fabulous new ideas and don't be surprised if some of my future characters look familiar to you;)...

Well, I have two little people home with me today, as returning to school has put Niamh under the weather.  She woke up today with a crackly voice and sore throat.  I have sort of come to expect it...Seems that being 'round all the kids (and their germs;) always gets to her that first month of school...Guess she just needs to build up that immune system for the year:)

Have a busy weekend ahead, with *new artwork* to do;), a church dinner (CRAB dinner...It's my favorite church related activity of the year!...Crabs are my #1 meal!)...and a birthday party
for a cousin:)...Will be fun!...Hope all your weekends are great as well!!

XOXO, Krista

Over the past couple of months, my younger brother has gotten the hubby into four wheeling...So much so, that we had our own quad within a few weeks:)...Being a sporty girl myself, I wanted to see what all the hype was about, so I went out riding with Phil, my brother, and his girlfriend...Oh my gosh-- I looooved it!!  I could ride every day...It's such a blast!...I've managed to get out a few more times without intruding on the "guy time"...and so far (fingers crossed:) haven't hit anything, flipped off, or wheelied (sp?)...(Though I've probably just jinxed myself)...

I started thinking that I'd like to do a tomboy character for my ETSY shop, as there has to be girls out there like myself who'd rather get dirty than get their nails done...I began with my hair/eye color...an outfit I'd love to wear, and then....BAM-- she just seemed to scream skater girl-- so I threw a skateboard in the background and that was that.  Sometimes the artwork decides for you what direction to go in:)...Oh well...I'll have to do another for myself.:)

I'd love to do a character after a reader or ETSY store browser...Leave a comment and describe WELL what your girl would look like (doesn't have to be you-- she can be any girl in your life!)...leave hair/eye color...hair length...and a style (i.e., tomboy, punk, goth, girly, hippie, country, rocker....whatever!)...I'll pick one that sounds terribly fun to draw and will title it after whatever name you'd like:).
Winner gets a free 11 x 14 size print....as a thanks for some fun inspiration!

OPEN till FRIDAY AFTERNOON:)

So, be sure to leave a comment-- it's always fun to design something personal-- and to receive it for free:D

XOXO, Krista
